Here's a simple recipe and procedure for making egg rolls:
Ingredients:
- 1 package of egg roll wrappers (usually found in the produce section of the grocery store)
- 1/2 lb of ground pork or shrimp (you can also use chicken or beef)
- 2 cups of shredded cabbage
- 1/2 cup of shredded carrots
- 1/2 cup of chopped onion
- 1/2 cup of chopped celery
- 1 tbsp of soy sauce
- 1 tsp of garlic powder
- 1 tsp of ground ginger
- 1 tsp of salt
- 1/4 tsp of black pepper
- 1 egg, beaten
Instructions:
1. In a large skillet or wok, brown the ground pork or shrimp over medium-high heat. Remove from the skillet and set aside.
2. In the same skillet, add the cabbage, carrots, onion, and celery, and sauté for 2-3 minutes until the vegetables are tender.
3. Add the cooked ground pork or shrimp back to the skillet and mix with the vegetables.
4. Add the soy sauce, garlic powder, ginger, salt, and black pepper to the skillet, and stir well to combine.
5. Remove the skillet from the heat and let the filling cool for a few minutes.
6. Preheat your deep fryer or a large pot of oil to 350°F.
7. Lay an egg roll wrapper on a clean surface with one corner pointing towards you.
8. Place 2-3 tablespoons of the filling in the center of the wrapper.
9. Fold the bottom corner of the wrapper over the filling and roll up tightly halfway.
10. Fold the left and right corners of the wrapper towards the center.
11. Brush the remaining top corner of the wrapper with the beaten egg.
12. Finish rolling up the wrapper tightly, pressing the top corner to seal the egg roll.
13. Repeat with the remaining wrappers and filling.
14. Once the oil is hot, carefully add the egg rolls to the deep fryer or pot, a few at a time.
15. Fry the egg rolls for 3-4 minutes until they are golden brown and crispy.
16. Remove the egg rolls with a slotted spoon and place them on a paper towel-lined plate to drain any excess oil.
17. Serve the egg rolls hot with sweet and sour sauce or your favorite dipping sauce.
